ABEEK Builds European Accreditation Ties at ENAEE Agencies’ Summit 2026
The Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) participated in the 2nd ENAEE European Accreditation Agencies' Summit 2026, held from June 14 to 16 at the University of Salerno in Italy. ENAEE, the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education, is a European organization that promotes quality assurance and international recognition in engineering education. The summit, organized under the theme “Diversity in Engineering Education and Accreditation,” brought together accreditation bodies and engineering education experts to discuss the evolving role of quality assurance in higher education. Participants included accreditation organizations from South Korea, the United States, Chile, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Türkiye, and other countries, creating a broad platform for international exchange.
ABEEK’s participation was especially meaningful as it followed the unanimous approval of ABEEK’s full membership in the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) on May 15, 2026. As a new ENAEE full member, ABEEK attended the summit to deepen its understanding of European accreditation practices and to build closer relationships with partner organizations.
ABEEK was represented by President Prof. Wooseung Kim and Director Hyoryong An. During the summit, President Kim participated in a panel discussion and gave a presentation on why global universities participate in accreditation, opening discussion on how accreditation can be valued not only as an evaluation process but also as a tool for institutional development, international recognition, and communication with students and industry.
For ABEEK, the summit offered a timely opportunity to study how the EUR-ACE® framework is applied in Europe and to consider how international accreditation models can inform the future development of Korean engineering education.
Through its participation in the ENAEE Summit 2026, ABEEK continued to expand its strategic international network and strengthen dialogue with leading accreditation bodies. Moving forward, ABEEK will continue monitoring global accreditation trends and exploring ways to enhance the value and visibility of Korean engineering education.
